About Zero Carbs Climate Collaborative

What’s in the name?

We know that the topic of climate change can be very heavy, so we looked for a name for our group that is a bit cheeky and eye catching.

The “carbs” is short for “carbon-emissions”.

In choosing a name, we took the lead of our good friend and advisor, Juliette O’Brian, who, together with Anthony Macali, set up “fact tank” OnlyFacts, currently focusing on climate change data. Juliette is also a stand up comic. And we think she picked a very witty double-entendre company name.

Zero Carbs. OnlyFacts. They tell you what they’re about, with a twist.

Who we are:

A grassroots, community climate support group based in eastern Australia.

We are independent, unincorporated, and non-partisan.

We met during climate solutions training in March-May 2022 and invited like-minded friends to join us to form a formal action group. We’ve been meeting ever since.

We take the most generous approach to other people as possible — appreciation, gratitude, and respect. As a group we are not involved in protest or complaints (but we respect individual member’s approaches).

We welcome new members, collaborators, and guest speakers.

Our mission:

Members meet formally and regularly with the focus on:

  • supporting each other in taking (personal and group) climate-action projects, based on our areas of expertise and interest
  • keeping abreast of climate evidence and issues via guest speakers and by sharing information
  • appealing to local and world leaders to act now in aiming for net-zero carbs.

ALWAYS WAS, ALWAYS WILL BE

Zero Carbs pay respect to the the Australian First Nations people — past, present and future. We recognise that sovereignty is yet to be ceded.

Zero Carbs focused heavily on campaigning for The Australian Indigenous Voice in the lead up to the 2023 referendum, recognising that there can be no climate justice without First Nations justice.
